Advent & Christmas 2022

For Christ is born of Mary,
And, gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wond'ring love.
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth,
And praises sing to God the King
And peace to all the earth.

O holy Child of Bethlehem,
Descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin and enter in;
Be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tiding tell;
Oh, come to us, abide with us,
Our Lord Immanuel!

“O Little Town of Bethlehem" — CW 66:2,4

“Advent” comes from the Latin word for “coming” or “arrival.” During the season of Advent we focus on the coming of Jesus to our world as a baby at Christmas, the coming of Jesus into our hearts through faith, and his coming on the Last Day to judge all people and bring his believers to be with him forever. Jesus urges us to be ready for his coming. It could be at any time.

How we marvel at that baby in the manger at Christmas who would grow up to die in our place. How much we long to see our Lord and experience fully the freedom he bought for us with his blood.
